Finnish film has gone down well in Brazil

“This recognition is a great honour and another indication that the whole team made a great film,” commented screenwriter Avi Heikkinen. “The award is encouraging for all other Finnish writers interested in genre film to trust their own crazy ideas and to push forward in the face of adversity.”

Directed by Arttu Haglund, Gone tells the story of a man who inexplicably starts teleporting around the world, much to the chagrin of his family. The low-budget film was in production for nine years, eventually landing on Finnish screens in late 2019.

Gone was the only film representing Finland at the festival, held virtually in its 16th year. Altogether 110 films from 35 countries competed.

This is the second international gong the film has received, following a Critic’s Award at Oporto International Film Festival (Fantasporto) in Portugal earlier this year.
