Finnish business schools succeed in Financial Times rankings

A record number of students began their studies at Hanken this year.

Hanken School of Economics

Helsinki-based Hanken School of Economics has secured the 57th position in the Financial Times’ Masters in Management ranking, placing it among the top business schools in the Nordics, as well as globally.

Hanken was one of the three highest-scoring business schools in the Nordics in the ranking, alongside the Stockholm School of Economics (15th) and Lund University School of Economics and Management (47th). Another Finnish institution, Aalto University, was also featured in the ranking and secured the 99th position.

The Financial Times’ annual ranking evaluates master’s programmes worldwide, with only 100 out of approximately 14 000 business schools qualifying for the prestigious list. Hanken has had consistent success in the ranking, securing the 62nd spot in 2022 and 46th in 2023.

Rector Ingmar Björkman expressed satisfaction with the results, noting the school's efforts to continuously improve its educational offerings.

“We are pleased that Hanken’s master’s programme continues to be highly ranked in the world and among the best in the Nordic region,” Björkman said. “This year, a record number of both Finnish and foreign students began their studies at Hanken.”

Hanken's strong ranking reflects its focus on employability and alumni satisfaction.

The ranking factors in alumni feedback, particularly regarding employability three months after graduation and overall satisfaction with their degree. According to Hanken, these indicators have contributed to its strong performance.

This year's top three business schools were the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland, followed by HEC Paris and INSEAD in France.

Finnish universities regularly perform well in global education rankings. In addition to the Financial Times ranking, Hanken achieved success in the latest Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) by ShanghaiRanking, where it placed 12th in business administration. Aalto University and the University of Vaasa also ranked among the top 20 in the category.
